Academic Background and Professional Start

Kalyani Tummala is born into a poor farmer’s family. She began to contribute to farming at the tender age of 9. She has dreamt of improving the farmers’ lives by engineering.  Kalyani’s path began with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad, followed by a Master’s degree (M-Tech) from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. Along her journey, she has earned notable accolades, including a granted patent for “Block Design Containers for Circuit Design” (US Patent No. 11886789-B1) ü  US-11886789-B1 – Block design containers for circuit design, highlighting her technical ingenuity and ability to solve real-world challenges.

Current Role at AMD: Driving Innovation in FPGA Tools

Currently serving as a Manager of Software Development at AMD, a global leader in semiconductor solutions, Kalyani plays a pivotal role in the Vivado™ IP Integrator of AMD Vivado™ Design Suite. Her leadership ensures that AMD’s FPGA design tools continue to push the boundaries of performance and reliability, serving industries from automotive to artificial intelligence (AI). By leading high-performance teams using agile methodologies, she ensures that each Vivado™ release meets both market demands and AMD’s high standards. Her responsibilities extend to strategic planning, execution, risk management, and quality assurance, laying the foundation for growth and innovation.

Prior to AMD(Xilinx Inc. is merged with AMD in 2022), Kalyani spent 15 years at Xilinx, the pioneer of FPGAs and the world’s foremost provider of programmable FPGAs, SoCs, Versal ACAP, and 3D ICs. At Xilinx, she contributed significantly to the development of customer-centric features in Vivado™, Vitis™, and Xilinx Platform Studio (XPS). Notably, she architected the Block Design Container (BDC) Technology, exporting AXI protocol instances for AXI Transaction Viewer, System C Simulator flow and responsible for Dynamic Function Exchange (DFX) flows in Vivado™ IP Integrator and other groundbreaking technologies enabling more efficient and flexible FPGA designs. Her work on AI platform flows and AI engine integration further established her as a leader in advanced FPGA and AI technologies.
